Julian Nichols is a dancer and choreographer who started his dance company, Bodies in Action, in the midst of the pandemic. What is most striking is that being a young company struggling for funding, they manage to make performances and produce events with minimal or no budget. The company’s last project, Action Lab, is quite remarkable. They have run it since September 2022 monthly and welcomed movement artists to present their ideas in progress or improvise. This event is open to the general public.
“In terms of curating my own work at the beginning, the question being why to curate my own work, and the answer being: money. Starting out a company where nobody trusts you is quite an adventure. Even applying for funding when you have a small amount of work under your belt is quite hard to do. So I guess the answer to this question is: practicality. I also really enjoy connecting with people and allowing people to come up and introduce themselves.”

Джулиан Николс, танцовщик и хореограф, родом из Канады, поражает тем, что в отсутствии возможностей, он создает их сам, и не только для себя, но и для других. Во время пандемии создал свою компанию, Bodies in Action, и стал выпускать свои проекты. “Честно, я был бы СЧАСТЛИВ больше поработать с дизайном декораций, реквизитом, и т.д., чтобы добавить выразительности своим постановкам и усилить посыл, который я хочу донести. Но на данном этапе моей хореографической карьеры мне бы хотелось больше сосредоточиться на том, как можно донести свою мысль исключительно посредством движения.”
